Why people use spreadsheets
Spreadsheets seem simple and familiar. Many people start storing passwords in Excel, Google Sheets, or a notes app because it's what they know.
The problem
- Data is typically unencrypted — anyone with access to the file can read everything
- Sharing means giving someone the whole file, not controlled access
- Cloud-synced docs are visible to the service provider and potentially their employees
- No password generation, 2FA storage, or security features
AmnPass vs. Browser Password Managers
| Feature | AmnPass | Browser Passwords |

| Zero-knowledge encryption | ||
| Cross-browser sync | ||
| Independent of browser | ||
| Built-in 2FA authenticator | ||

| Works on any device | Limited | |
| Team/family sharing |
Why people use browser passwords
Chrome, Firefox, and Safari all offer to save your passwords. It's convenient because it's built right in.
The limitations
- Passwords tied to one browser — switch browsers and you start over
- Usually not zero-knowledge — browser vendors can often access your data
- No built-in 2FA code storage
- Can't securely share passwords with family or team
AmnPass vs. Sticky Notes & Notebooks
We get it — writing things down feels secure because it's offline. But physical storage has serious drawbacks:
- Anyone who sees the note can read your passwords
- Notes get lost, damaged, or thrown away
- You can only access passwords where the note is
- Leads to simple, memorable (weak) passwords
That said: A physical backup of your master password in a safe is a great idea. Just don't use physical storage for day-to-day passwords.
